TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder prepares industrial and commercial waste, presorted municipal waste and plastics for effective separation. It reduces the size for efficient recovery of metals, glass and other recyclable materials as well as removal of contaminants. Homogenous and consistent particle size ensures uninterrupted flow through downstream conveyors and separation equipment, making TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder an equally strong choice as the first machine in a two-stage shredding process.

TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder has been engineered to deliver high capacity and uptime for industrial-scale processing of ICW, MSW and plastics. At the heart of this performance are purpose-built technologies, such as Zero Gap® cutting technology and Tyrannosaurus Intelligent Drive (TID) system. For additional flexibility and protection, these can be complemented by unique Massive Impact Protection System (MIPS®). Each of these technologies have been developed to address the specific challenges of high-volume waste processing.

Zero Gap® cutting technology – extended blade life and precise cutting performance

When processing ICW, MSW and plastics, knives are under constant stress due to continuously varying material streams, including hard plastics, metallic contaminants, and abrasive materials such as sand, stones, and concrete.

With TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder, we build on proven, patented Zero Gap® technology from the TYRANNOSAURUS® product family to ensure long-term performance in the most abrasive conditions. The knife material, size, and shape have been carefully selected to resist wear and fracturing and maintain high RDF and SRF output quality.

Zero Gap® cutting technology – extended knife life and precise cutting performance

Traditional shredders often struggle with thin, flexible materials, such as stretch films and synthetic fibers, which are common in ICW streams. These materials tend to wrap around the rotor or slip through the gap between knives. The Zero Gap® technology eliminates this problem through a near-zero clearance between the counter-knives and rotor knives, effectively preventing both wrapping and material bypass.

Adjustable counter-knives

As knives begin to wear, Zero Gap® maintains capacity, particle size, and output quality. Each 800 mm section of the counter-knives can be adjusted independently to keep the cutting gap at its optimum, over the whole width of the machine. Zero Gap®, together with a hydraulically operated pusher that presses the material firmly against the rotor knives, ensures continuous high shredding performance and enables reliable processing of lighter materials.

The opposite edges of each knife can be utilized by turning them 180°, effectively doubling knife service life and delivering significant savings in operating costs.

The innovative Zero Gap® technology acts like a pair of industrial-grade scissors, slicing through thin plastics and films that would otherwise clog conventional machinery.

Tyrannosaurus Intelligent Drive TID

An efficient and reliable drive is fundamental to achieving consistent high capacity. TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder features a direct drive that addresses the key vulnerabilities of traditional drive systems.

TID protects the drive from sudden high-impact loads at the rotor, preventing damage in demanding processing conditions. High-efficiency motors deliver peak torque up to 250% of the rated value, ensuring reliable performance even with the most challenging material streams while optimizing energy use. The robust gear unit is equipped with a dedicated cooling and filtration unit, further supporting reliable operation and long service life.

With minimal maintenance requirements, Tyrannosaurus Intelligent Drive keeps operational interruptions to a minimum, contributing directly to high long-term uptime.

Massive Impact Protection System MIPS®

The optional Massive Impact Protection System MIPS® enables safe and efficient removal of unshreddable materials – no hopper entry required.

In TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder, the counter-knife cassette is held in place hydraulically. When unshreddable materials such as stones or steel enter the feed, the cassette releases downward, allowing the material to drop out safely before it can cause damage. This protects the machine from mechanical damage and allows operators to process less homogeneous waste streams with confidence.

MIPS® can also be retrofitted to existing TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder machines.

Rotor and cutting system designed for consistent high throughput

The rotor speed and knife size of the TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder are optimized for high production, while the spiral knife arrangement distributes power effectively across each cutting event, ensuring smooth and consistent operation. An automated pusher maintains constant material feed against the rotor, preventing slippage and keeping throughput steady. Its high-power motors with built-in power reserve handle sudden load variations without interruption – whatever the material stream brings.

Optional equipment and feature to maximize the performance of TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder

Screens

A wide selection of screens ensures TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder is suited for different applications and material streams. Choosing the right mesh size and shape improves throughput and output consistency.

Feeder

Consistent, optimal fill level in the shredding chamber is key to achieving maximum long-term capacity. The automatic feed system of TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder maintains the ideal amount of material in the chamber at all times, increasing long-term capacity by up to 20–30% compared to manual feeding.

Available with large buffer and 8–24 m long feeder to accommodate varying site layouts and material flow requirements.

Massive Impact Protection System MIPS®

MIPS® enables the safe and efficient removal of hard, unshreddable objects, such as stones and steel, from the feed without requiring the operator to enter the hopper. MIPS® can be retrofitted to existing TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredders.

Designed for easy maintenance – all service points within reach

Minimizing maintenance downtime is critical in industrial-scale operations. That is why TYRANNOSAURUS® 8500 Shredder has been designed with features that make routine maintenance as straightforward as possible – without compromising on safety.

Access to the rotor and counter knives is comfortable through the hydraulically operated maintenance hatch. Large doors and hatches provide clear visibility and easy access to the rotor, screens and counter-knives, so cleaning, servicing and replacing parts takes minimal time and effort. Also, the Zero Gap® adjustment can be done without entering the shredding chamber.
