Maintainability equals Sustainability – BMH designs solutions with a long life cycle
Maintainability is a key feature in everything we design and manufacture. We firmly believe that it's one of our superpowers and enables us to build renewable future with our waste processing and biomass handling solutions, and life cycle services.
Pori Energia Oy, one of our energy sector customers, has a set of eight LSC 63/50 rotary feeders that they use for handling biomass fuel. Five of them are currently in operation while the remaining three are kept on standby. Annually, three of the active feeders are replaced with their spare counterparts while they undergo a thorough reconditioning process. Once reconditioned, these rotary feeders are returned to the customer as spare equipment, ensuring the operation runs smoothly without any interruptions.
Over the past 15 years, we've had the privilege to annually recondition these three LSC 63/50 rotary feeders. They are a prime example of how regular maintenance can significantly prolong the equipment's lifespan.
Basic maintenance for a rotary feeder includes:
- Disassembly, inspection, and cleaning of the unit
- Straightening of the housing and central tube using a machining tool
- Checking the rotor shaft's straightness using a lathe
- Welding and machining of the locking wheel
- Replacement of bearings, seals, and counter knife
- Reassembly
